Common questions and answers about CBD products and oils

What is CBD?

CBD is a chemical compound, or cannabinoid, found in the hemp plant. CBD is not intoxicating. A total of over 120 different cannabinoids have been found in hemp, each with its own unique properties.

What is the difference between raw extracted and activated oils?

Raw vs. Activated CBD-products

Activation, or decarboxylation, converts acid cannabinoids (CBDA, CBGA, THCA, etc.) into neutral cannabinoids (CBD, CBG, THC, etc.).

Activated CBD products contain less CBDA in particular, which has been converted to CBD by activation.

Raw CBD products have a more natural full spectrum, meaning more cannabinoid acids and other compounds from the whole hemp plant.

The differences in effects are based on different cannabinoid concentrations:

Over 120 cannabinoids have been identified in hemp. Each cannabinoid has its own properties.

How do CBD oils differ from each other?
  • CBD oils there are differences in strengths and cannabinoid concentrations. CBD concentrations are generally described as either percentages or milligrams.
  • In addition to cannabidiol, some oils contain cannabidiolic acid (CBDA), which is a precursor to CBD.

CBG oils contain not only CBD but also added CBG and CBN extract. Read more about the topic CBG or cannabigerol and CBN or cannabinol .

In addition to oils, you will also find CBD capsules and CBD cosmetics.

Can you get intoxicating effects from CBD oil?
  • CBD oil is not intoxicating at all because it is made from industrial fiber hemp or oil hemp varieties with less than 0.2% THC, which produce more CBD and other cannabinoids than THC.

It is recommended for beginners and sensitive people to always start with small amounts.

Is it legal to order CBD oil?

Yes, ordering CBD oil is legal in Finland and the EU.

CBD oil and products are legal in the EU as long as it is made from an industrial hemp variety that is registered to the EU variety database and contains less than 0.2% THC.

The EU has also decided that CBD is not a narcotic and there is free movement of CBD products in EU member states.

Are CBD products free from contamination and heavy metals?
  • All products sold in the online store are tested to be free of heavy metals and other possible contamination.
  • Each product is analyzed by a third-party laboratory to ensure purity.
Can CBD oil be used during pregnancy?

Pregnant and breastfeeding women should not use CBD oil.

Is it safe to use CBD oil?

Yes, using CBD oil is definitely safe.

According to a critical report by a panel of experts from the World Health Organization (WHO), CBD products have a good safety profile and are well tolerated.

The WHO report also states that CBD does not pose a risk of abuse or addiction.

CBD oil users should make sure they are using high-quality CBD oil that has been analyzed by a third party to ensure safety and quality.

NOTE! CBD oil may significantly increase or decrease the effectiveness of certain medications because cannabinoids interact with liver enzymes. If you are taking or plan to take prescription medications and CBD products at the same time, you should check the list of medications that interact with CBD and discuss the matter with your doctor.

 CBD, CBD-A and other cannabinoids

What is CBD?

CBD is a chemical compound, or cannabinoid, found in the hemp plant. CBD is not intoxicating. A total of over 120 different cannabinoids have been found in hemp, each with its own unique properties.

What are cannabinoids?

Cannabinoids are a group of compounds originally found in hemp, but they refer to all compounds that bind to the body's cannabinoid receptors (Z. Fisar. 2009.; AC. Howlett et al. 2002.; DM. Lambert et al. 2005.). They include phytocannabinoids, or external cannabinoids, endocannabinoids, or internal cannabinoids, and synthetic cannabinoids produced in the laboratory. More than a hundred different external cannabinoids have been identified in hemp. In total, hemp contains about 489 different compounds (N. Happyana et al. 2013).

What is CBDA?

CBDA (cannabidiolic acid) is the precursor to CBD as it is found in fresh hemp. CBD and CBDA are cannabinoids that occur naturally in hemp.

CBD: cannabidiol.

CBDA: cannabidiolic acid

CBDA converts to CBD over time and heat.

What are CBG and CBN?

CBG: cannabigerol

  • CBG is the mother of all cannabinoids.
  • CBGA, or cannabigerolic acid, is the first cannabinoid formed in hemp and from which other cannabinoids are also synthesized.
  • See the range of CBG oils.

CBN: cannabinol

  • CBN is a cannabinoid called cannabinol, which is one of the most studied cannabinoids.
  • See the range of CBN oils.

 CBD PRODUCTION AND STORAGE

How is CBD oil made?

CBD oil is made by mixing CBD extract and a carrier oil made from vegetable fats.

CBD extract can be prepared by many different techniques. In general, all CBD extraction techniques require the use of solvents. These solvents are important because they effectively separate CBD and other cannabinoids from plant material. The solvent is then evaporated to leave only pure CBD extract oil.

There are several different extraction methods for CBD and the most used are Alcohol Extraction, Butane Extraction (BHO) and Supercritical Carbon Dioxide Extraction (CO2).

The carrier oil acts as a component to facilitate the dosing and absorption of the active ingredients, because CBD and other cannabinodes are fat-soluble.

How does CO2 extraction work and why is it the safest and most popular?

CO2 extraction (supercritical carbon dioxide) is widely used in the pharmaceutical, dietary supplement and cosmetic industries. CO2 extraction takes place in a closed loop system.

The hemp plant material is placed in a chamber, which is then filled with carbon dioxide. By increasing the pressure in the chamber, the carbon dioxide turns into a liquid, which then absorbs the fat-soluble compounds and aromas of the hemp. The end result is a liquid consisting of carbon dioxide and the natural compounds of the hemp. This liquid is pumped into the final chamber, where the carbon dioxide is converted back into a gas.

The end result is a 100% pure, safe and effective CBD extract.

If CBD isolate or stronger distillates are made from CO2-extracted CBD extract, it typically needs to be further purified with an alcohol extract.

How should CBD products be stored?
  • CBD oils are best stored in a dry and cool place, protected from sunlight.
  • We recommend storing opened products at room temperature to prevent moisture from building up inside, e.g. from the refrigerator.
  • We do not recommend storing opened products in the refrigerator.
  • CBD creams and cosmetic products are best stored in a dry and cool place, protected from sunlight.
How to recognize the highest quality CBD oil?

The highest quality CBD oils are:

  • analyzed by a third party (i.e. an independent party)
  • packaged in a dark/black glass bottle or Miron Glass bottle to protect from light
  • clearly marked with the extraction method used
  • made from hand-picked crops, because a 100% mold-free crop guarantees quality and safety (and therefore the CBD oil has not had to be filtered)
  • The compounds contained in CBD extract are more diverse when it is made from several different hemp varieties.
What does full spectrum cbd oil mean?

Full spectrum means that the CBD oil in question contains all the compounds naturally found in hemp (cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids).

Full-spectrum CBD oil has more diverse properties than isolated CBD.
