What is CBD oil?

CBD oil is a natural extract made from hemp (Cannabis sativa L.). CBD oil is not at all intoxicating.

CBD oil is based on phytocannabinoids, which are compounds naturally found in hemp. CBD extracted into oil is the most popular CBD product.

We only offer CBD oils and products made from hemp that contains less than 0.2% THC. This means that the products have no intoxicating properties at all.

In the EU, CBD oil containing less than 0.2% THC is legal to buy and sell.

What are CBD and phytocannabinoids?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a cannabinoid compound found in cannabis plants (hemp and cannabis).

Phytocannabinoids, i.e. plant-derived cannabinoids (e.g., CBD, CBD-A, THC, CBG, CBN, etc.), are natural terpenoids or phenolic compounds derived from plants, and in particular cannabis plants. 1

120 different cannabinoids and a total of 565 compounds (terpenes, flavonoids, cannabinins) have been identified in cannabis plants.

How is CBD oil made?

CBD oil is made by mixing CBD extract and a carrier oil made from vegetable fats.

CBD extract can be prepared by many different techniques. In general, all CBD extraction techniques require the use of solvents. These solvents are important because they effectively separate CBD and other cannabinoids from plant material. The solvent is then evaporated to leave only pure CBD extract oil.

There are several different extraction methods for CBD and the most used are Alcohol Extraction, Butane Extraction (BHO) and Supercritical Carbon Dioxide Extraction (CO2).

The carrier oil acts as an absorption-enhancing component because CBD and other cannabinoids are fat-soluble.

How does CO2 extraction work and why is it the safest and most popular?

CO2 extraction (supercritical carbon dioxide) is widely used in the pharmaceutical, dietary supplement and cosmetic industries. CO2 extraction takes place in a closed loop system.

The hemp plant material is placed in a chamber, which is then filled with carbon dioxide. By increasing the pressure in the chamber, the carbon dioxide turns into a liquid, which then absorbs the fat-soluble compounds and aromas of the hemp. The end result is a liquid consisting of carbon dioxide and the natural compounds of the hemp. This liquid is pumped into the final chamber, where the carbon dioxide is converted back into a gas. The end result is a 100% pure, safe and effective CBD extract.

If CBD isolate or stronger distillates are made from CO2-extracted CBD extract, it typically needs to be further purified with an alcohol extract.

Why is MCT oil the most popular and best carrier oil for CBD oil?

MCT oil, derived from coconut, is the most popular and best carrier oil because it is odorless and stays good longer than other vegetable oils, such as hemp seed or olive oil. In addition, MCT oil improves the shelf life of the product.

How to recognize the highest quality CBD oil?

The highest quality CBD oils are:

  • analyzed by a third party (i.e. an independent party)
  • packaged in a dark/black glass bottle or a Miro glass bottle to protect from light
  • clearly marked with the extraction method used
  • made from hand-picked crops, because a 100% mold-free crop guarantees quality and safety (and therefore the CBD oil has not had to be filtered)
  • the more diverse the content, the more hemp varieties it is made from
