What is CBD oil?

CBD oil is a natural extract made from hemp (Cannabis sativa L.). CBD oil is not intoxicating, even though it has soothing psychoactive effects.

CBD oil is used internally or externally to maintain body health and homeostasis. The effects of CBD oil are based on phytocannabinoids, which are naturally occurring compounds in hemp.

CBD oil is the most popular CBD product because it is an easy, fast and effective way to dispense the required dose of CBD. When used internally, CBD is administered directly under the tongue, or into a beverage / food. When applied externally, applied directly to the skin, or mixed with a lotion.

We only offer CBD oils and products made from hemp that contains less than 0.2% THC. This means that the products have no intoxicating effects at all.

In the EU, CBD oil containing less than 0.2% THC is legal to buy and sell.

What are CBD and phytocannabinoids?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a cannabinoid compoundfound in cannabis plants (hemp and cannabis).

Phytocannabinoids, i.e. plant-derived cannabinoids (e.g., CBD, CBD-A, THC, CBG, CBN, etc.), are natural terpenoids or phenolic compounds derived from plants, and in particular cannabis plants. 1

120 different cannabinoids and a total of 565 compounds that promote human health (terpenes, flavonoids, cannabisins) have been identified in cannabis plants.

Cannabinoids act together and individually, directly or indirectly in the body’s endocannabinoid system.

What is a full spectrum CBD oil?

Full Spectrum means that the CBD oil in question contains all the compounds naturally present in hemp (cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids).

The full spectrum of CBD oil has a richer effect, i.e. the so-called entourage effect. Cannabinoids and terpenes act differently with other cannabinoids, with varying concentrations.

How is CBD oil made?

CBD oil is prepared by mixing CBD extract and carrier oil made from vegetable fats.

CBD extract can be prepared by many different techniques. In general, all CBD extraction techniques require the use of solvents. These solvents are important because they effectively separate CBD and other cannabinoids from plant material. The solvent is then evaporated to leave only pure CBD extract oil.

There are several different extraction methods for CBD and the most used are Alcohol Extraction, Butane Extraction (BHO) and Supercritical Carbon Dioxide Extraction (CO2).

The carrier oil acts as a component to facilitate the dosing and absorption of the active ingredients because CBD and other cannabinodes are fat-soluble.

How does CO2 extraction take place and why is it the safest and most popular?

CO2 extraction (supercritical carbon dioxide) is widely used in the pharmaceutical, food supplement and cosmetics industries. CO2 extraction takes place in a closed loop system.

The hemp plant material is placed in a chamber which is then filled with carbon dioxide. By adding pressure to the chamber, carbon dioxide is converted into a liquid, which then absorbs the fat-soluble compounds and aromas of hemp. The end result is a liquid made up of carbon dioxide and the natural compounds of hemp. This liquid is pumped into the final chamber where the carbon dioxide is converted back to gas.

The result is a 100% pure, safe and effective CBD extract.

If the CO2-extracted CBD extract is made into a CBD isolate or stronger distillates, it must typically be further purified with an alcoholic extract.

How is CBD oil used and dosed?

Internally, CBD oil is used and pipetted under the tongue, or into fatty foods. The dissolution of CBD oil through the submucosal glands allows CBD to enter the bloodstream more efficiently.

Externally, CBD oil is applied and administered directly to the skin, or in combination with skin oil or favorite cosmetics.

CBD oils are available in different strengths. e.g 5% CBD oil has 500mg of CBD. One drop of 5% CBD oil contains 2.5mg of CBD.

10ml of CBD oil contains 200 drops regardless of the manufacturer or seller.

What is CBD carrier oil and is it high in omega fatty acids?

The carrier oil is a vegetable fat into which the CBD extract has been mixed. The carrier oil facilitates dosing and absorption of cannabinoids.

The nutritional content of the carrier oil is of little or no importance because the amounts of CBD oil used are so small.

It is true that hemp seed oil is rich in omega-3, -6- and -9 fatty acids and vitamin E, but to get even one day of CBD oil you should consume it in one and a half 10ml bottles a day.

Thus, nutritional sales talks about CBD oil are irrelevant. If you want to get enough of the necessary omega fatty acids, it makes the most sense to use 15ml of hemp seed oil as it is every day.

Why is MCT oil the most popular and best carrier oil for CBD oil?

MCT oil from coconut is the most popular and best carrier oil because it is tasteless and stays good longer than other vegetable oils such as hemp seed or olive oil. In addition, MCT oil improves the absorption and shelf life of active ingredients.

How to identify the highest quality CBD oil?

The highest quality CBD oils are:

  • analyzed by a third party
  • packed in a dark / black glass bottle or Miron glass bottle for protection against light
  • clearly marked for the extraction method used
  • made from a hand-picked crop, as a 100% mold-free crop guarantees quality and safety (therefore no need to filter CBD oil)
  • the more hemp varieties it is made from, the richer the effect

Impact, side effect, safety and legality of CBD oil

Read more about the use, effect, side effects, safety and legality of CBD oil in Finland in 2023.

What is the impact of CBD oil based on?

The effects of CBD oil are primarily in cannabinoids, which together and individually, directly or indirectly, balance the body’s endocannabinoid system.

CBD oil also contains other compounds that promote body health, such as terpenes, flavonoids, cannabisins, and in some cases small amounts of leafy green and omega fatty acids.

The endocannabinoid system is one of the largest human receptor networks. Its purpose is to maintain balance in the various systems of the body by slowing down and speeding up processes as needed.

According to the U.S. Department of Health, the endocannabinoid system is associated with almost all human diseases.

Does CBD oil have side effects?

CBD oil has no serious side effects. CBD is also not dangerous even at high doses. The higher the dose of CBD oil, the stronger the sedative effect. Fatigue is one of the most common side effects of CBD.

Other side effects include dry mouth, lower blood pressure and changes in appetite. Dry mouth is a common side effect and is facilitated by simply drinking more water.

The change in appetite may be an increased appetite, or a decrease in it. In general, the endocannabinoid system tends to maintain the body’s homeostasis (the appropriate balance of the body’s physiological processes), so a change in appetite may also be beneficial. However, if you experience these effects as negative, then it is advisable to reduce the intake of CBD oil until your appetite is restored. You can then increase the dose again if needed.

Also, especially for beginners, there are a few things to keep in mind.

Taking too much can, in extreme cases, cause dizziness, headache, diarrhea, loss of appetite and excessive tiredness.

Aloittelijoiden ja hyvin herkkien ihmisten on hyvä aloittaa pienillä 1-6 tipan annoksilla 1-10%:sesta öljystä ja nostaa annosta pikkuhiljaa tarpeen mukaan.

The EU has also decided that CBD is not a drug and that there is free movement of CBD products in EU Member States.

Can CBD oil be used during pregnancy?

Pregnant and breastfeeding women should not use CBD oil.

Can a child be given CBD oil?

Healthy young children do not need CBD oil, although endocannabinoids are found in breast milk. 2

There are still very few studies on the safety and effectiveness of CBD in children. If someone is considering giving CBD oil to a child, at least make sure that that CBD oil is made from hemp.

The cannabinoid analysis of CBD oil can be used to check the amount of THC in the final product. THC residues have been removed from CBD products suitable for children, ie the product is THC-free.

Can CBD oil be used at the same time as prescription drugs?

CBD oil may significantly increase or decrease the effectiveness of certain drugs because cannabinoids interact with liver enzymes. If prescription drugs and CBD products are being used or are going to be used at the same time, the list of medicines that interact with the CBD should be reviewed and discussed with your doctor.

Some people may have health problems with their blood pressure, and even a small drop in blood pressure can be significant. If you are taking or plan to take prescription medicines for high blood pressure while taking CBD products, you should check if the medicine is on the list of medicines that interact with CBD and it is important to talk to your doctor first.
